Earlier is better! Intervention is likely to be more effective when it is provided earlier in life than later. Research says, that the connections in a baby’s brain are most adaptable in the first 3yrs of life. These connections, also called neural circuits are the foundation for learning and behaviour. Over time, these connections become harder to change.
Children reach developmental milestones at their own pace. Minor, temporary delays are usually no cause for alarm but an ongoing delay or multiple delays in reaching milestones can be a sign of challenge later in life. Around 15months of age, child should have simple vocabulary of 3–5 words used meaningfully. There is no harm in waiting if the other prelinguistic skills are well established and the child is socially active. If you suspect your child has developmental delay, speak with your pediatrician and if required get the child assessed by concerned professionals.
